Description
Special Weather Statement issued September 29 at 5:07PM EDT by NWS Melbourne FL
While Hurricane Ian continues to pull away from east central
Florida over the local coastal waters, strengthening of this storm
will continue. Portions of Volusia and Brevard counties,
especially closer towards the coast, can expect strong tropical
wind gusts through early evening. Many locations will see wind
gusts of 45 to 55 mph, but there may be occasional gusts of 65 to
70 mph and possibly just a little higher. Winds will slowly begin
to diminish later this evening as the storm pulls further away
from the area.
In addition, we will see some rain bands move quickly southward
down the coast. These squalls will bring briefly heavy downpours
and very gusty winds of tropical storm force, as strong winds
above the surface mix down to the ground.
