Description
Beach Hazards Statement issued November 3 at 3:34AM EDT until November 5 at 4:00AM EDT by NWS Melbourne FL
* WHAT...A strong southward flowing longshore current in the surf
zone today. Building, choppy surf expected Friday with breaking
waves up to 5 feet developing.
* WHERE...Coastal Volusia, Coastal Indian River, Coastal Saint
Lucie, Coastal Martin, Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern
Brevard Barrier Islands, Mainland Southern Brevard and
Southern Brevard Barrier Islands Counties.
* WHEN...Through late Friday night.
* IMPACTS...Rough surf can knock you off your feet and make you
even more susceptible to being caught in either a rip current or
a longshore current.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There will also be a Moderate Risk of
Dangerous Rip Currents in the surf zone today and Friday. Never
try to swim directly against either a longshore current or a
rip current.
If you decide to enter the ocean today, do so only within sight
of a lifeguard. Never enter the ocean along. If caught in a rip
current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able,
swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape,
face the shore and call or wave for help.
Entering the ocean on Friday is strongly discouraged due to the
increasingly hazardous surf conditions.
