Description
Beach Hazards Statement issued January 17 at 3:04AM EST until January 17 at 7:00PM EST by NWS Melbourne FL

* WHAT...A strong southward flowing longshore current, with a
Moderate risk of dangerous rip currents, exists in the surf zone
today.

* WHERE...Coastal Volusia, Coastal Indian River, Coastal Saint
Lucie, Coastal Martin, and Coastal Brevard Counties.

* WHEN...Through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Breezy northerly winds will produce a strong southward
flowing longshore current today, which can push swimmers into
deeper water unexpectedly and make them more susceptible to
dangerous rip currents.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
